Where can I learn more about California Carnivores?
A few years ago I wrote a Q&A with Peter D’Amato, the late founder of California Carnivores, which I’d recommend reading if you’re interested in learning more about the nursery, its history, and how it operates.
Peter was an incredibly kind, funny, and generous man with an infectious enthusiasm for carnivorous plants. I count myself very lucky to have spoken to him several times in the years before he passed, because it was his book - The Savage Garden - which first got me hooked on growing carnivorous plants as a kid! Not to mention, it was Peter’s feedback on my first maps and interactive tools which prompted me to start putting more energy into developing this website.
California Carnivores is now run by the brilliant Damon and Daniela. If you’d like to learn more about the nursery, and get regular growing tips and photos of their amazing collection, be sure to follow them on Instagram and Facebook.
I've been growing carnivorous plants for over 2 decades, having been fascinated by these plants since I got my first Venus flytrap at age 10. I now have a large greenhouse to house my collection and am an avid breeder of Nepenthes pitcher plants.
