Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula)

One of the most iconic plants in the world! For many growers, the Venus flytrap provides a gateway into the wonderful world of carnivorous plants. Charles Darwin famously described the Venus flytrap as “one of the most wonderful in the world,” and few who have seen a healthy plant snapping shut on an insect would disagree.

Contrary to popular belief, the Venus flytrap is not a difficult plant to grow. Many growers start out with an unhealthy plant purchased from a hardware store, or fail to meet basic growing requirements. Simply provide your flytrap with a sunny spot (south-facing windows are ideal) standing in a tray of distilled or rainwater, and don’t forget to provide a winter dormancy. You can learn all about successful cultivation by checking out my Venus Flytrap Growing Guide.

The plants I’m selling here are healthy, established Venus flytraps, and they are sent potted in appropriate soil. If you’re interested in a companion for your carnivore, be sure to take a look at the Sarracenia I have available! See delivery information.
