Over 170 species of Nepenthes have been discovered, and from these countless hybrids have been created. Many are vigorous, easy growers that do well as houseplants. Of these, Nepenthes ampullaria x ventricosa - popularly known as ‘Bloody Mary’ - is one of my favourites! It has big glossy leaves, vibrant red pitchers, and a bushy growth habit.
Nepenthes like a bright position, but without too much direct sunlight. High humidity is ideal to encourage pitcher growth, so misting can help. Keep the soil just damp, more like an orchid than their bog-dwelling North American cousins. Learn more by reading my free guide on Caring for Tropical Pitcher Plants. See delivery information.
